First aid Manual of DK and American College of Emergency Physicians

"First aid manual, 3rd Edition: The step-by-step Guide for all" by DK and the American College of Emergency Physicians and the medical editor-in-Chief Gina m. Piazza, MD, is a great little Handbook of first aid information. It is structured in a logical way, contains clear instructions and descriptions and produces many full color photographs and illustrations. You never know when you might need to respond to a medical emergency and read a guide the Handbook first aid before you need it, and then with the practical reference is sensible preparations before you need it.

The book has a short introduction on how to use the book, and then a chapter on becoming a first aider. This is great information for anyone who may need help for another. The second chapter deals with managing an incident, also very important for all offer support to others in an emergency.

Starting with chapter three, begins the book deal with actual first-aid, starting with evaluation of the victims. Next come the chapters on unconscious victim, respiratory problems, ulcers, and circulation. Bone, joint and muscle damage; nervous system problems. effects of heat and cold, foreign objects, poisoning, bites and stings; medical conditions. technology and equipment. emergency first aid. and finally, an appendix with two pages of first aid and an index.

Chapters are color-coded to make it easier to find what you need, and the index is also useful to make it easier to find what you need when time is of the essence. The book contains much more than just get the basics of first aid. I like the text explains the body and what goes on behind the different types of wounds and injuries to the reader better understand the nature of the problem and why the recommended approach is advised and what you can expect from delivers first aid to the person who needs it. The book contains also cross referencing throughout, such as during rib damage which it may propose you might also want to look under the abdomen wounds, penetrating chest wounds or shock and page numbers are provided.

The entries also include page on recognition and your goals and warnings about conditions and treatments referred to throughout the text. The book is very well done, and an excellent guide on first aid. I recommend it to anyone looking for a first aid manual to read, and have on hand for emergencies that may arise.
